Located in the middle of the North Atlantic, with cool and steady sea temperatures surrounding the small strips of land, the pristine fjords of the Faroe Islands provide the perfect conditions for raising healthy and robust Atlantic salmon.

In 2015, the UN set out 17 sustainable development goals (SDG) as a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. Goal 2 is to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition. As inhabitants of these raw, unspoiled islands, we at Bakkafrost see it as our responsibility to utilize these unique conditions for sustainable food production to feed the fast-growing population of the earth.

Currently, we are consuming resources equivalent to 1.75 earths. Provided the development continues, we will need 2 earths to feed the world’s population by 2030. This is why we need to make a change right now.
