The Ocean Opportunity

Did you know?

About 70% of the earth is covered with water, and 30% is land-covered. However, only 5% of our food come from the oceans

About 70% of the earth is covered with water, and 30% is land-covered. However, only 5% of our food come from the oceans[1], resulting in the earth being put under an enormous pressure.
If we are to provide future generations with enough protein, we must make a change and aim for a more sustainable distribution between agriculture and aquaculture.

We currently use as much ecological resources as if we lived on 1.6 earths[2], and with the demand continuously increasing due to population growth, earth’s capacity for biological regeneration is highly challenged.

At Bakkafrost, we wish to point to aquaculture, and specifically farmed salmon as part of the solution. Based in the North Atlantic, we know the importance of utilizing the oceans for protein production. The pristine waters in the Faroese and Scottish fjords provide the perfect conditions for raising superior quality salmon, and we take pride in supplying the growing population of the earth with sustainable and healthy food sourced directly from nature.

With every serving of farmed Atlantic salmon from Bakkafrost, you contribute to a healthier environment and a sustainable future.
