Bakkafrost salmon is produced in the Faroe Islands and Scotland. The Faroe Islands are located in the North Atlantic, while Bakkafrost Scotland operates across the west coast of Scotland. Product origin depends on the product and market.
Bakkafrost manages important stages of production, including feed production, hatcheries, farming, harvesting and processing. This vertically integrated approach helps us follow the product through relevant stages and apply documented quality controls.
Feed is an important part of salmon production. Bakkafrost’s feed operations are integrated into the wider value chain, supporting control over feed quality, composition and traceability. Feed ingredients are sourced according to applicable requirements and sourcing standards.
Our teams work with recognised procedures covering fish health, welfare, food safety, environmental management and product quality. These systems are supported by employee training, monitoring, traceability and regular quality controls.
Bakkafrost’s sites and facilities hold certifications according to their activities and certificate scope. These include standards such as GLOBALG.A.P., ASC, BRCGS, IFS, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Bakkafrost also publishes information about nutritional composition, fish health, mortality rates, sea-lice levels and certifications.

For the Faroe Islands, Bakkafrost reports that no antibiotics have been used to treat Atlantic salmon since 2004. This statement applies specifically to Atlantic salmon farming in the Faroe Islands and should not be interpreted as a Group-wide statement covering every region or treatment.
