Bakkafrost has signed contract to expand smolt capacity

The first part of the agreement is to expand Bakkafrost´s smolt production in Viðareiði. This expansion will increase the smolt production in Viðareiði by a factor of four. The expansion will be finished within one year.

The hatchery will be equipped with state of the art technology. With this new capacity Bakkafrost will be able to product bigger smolts thereby reducing the salmon´s time at sea thus minimising the risk of sealice and disease.

The agreement is signed with the construction company Articon and also includes expanding other parts of Bakkafrost smolt production in 2016 and 2017.
