One of Bakkafrost’ s top sustainability priorities is to have all active farming sites ASC certified within 2020. ASC is the most acknowledged environmental certification in the world within the salmon business. The process of getting all sites certified has been going very well, and now A63 Árnafjørður and A15 Tvøroyri have been ASC certified.
The entire value chain of Bakkafrost is working according to the ASC-standard. The factories are ASC certified, and moreover, the feed and smolt is also ASC certified. Now, 17 of all active farming sites have been certified, and there are only two sites left.
- One of the two remaining sites have already been audited, and the audit of the other site will be conducted on the 28th of September. We strongly expect to reach our goal to have all sites certified within 2020, says Anna Johansen, Manager of the Quality Department.
Usually, people from ASC come from Great Britain to the Faroe Islands to conduct the ASC-audits. However, due to the Corona pandemic, lately the audits have been conducted remotely.
- This has been challenging, but nevertheless it has proven to work fine, says Anna Johansen.
The process of getting international certifications like ASC is comprehensive and challenging. The certifications are the customers guarantee that we as a company set ambitious goals, and that we organize our production in a sustainable manner. It is of vital importance for Bakkafrost’ s competitiveness that we work according to the strictest international standards, and that we continuously set new and even more challenging goals.
